Save Money On Gas

Save Money On Gas

Save money on gas Here are the top tips to drive more efficiently and save money on gas.

  • Observe the Speed Limit
While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph.

As a rule of thumb, you can assume that each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional $0.21 per gallon for gas. To save money on gas drive at or below 60 mph.

Observing the speed limit is also safer.

    Fuel Economy Benefit: 7-23%
    Equivalent Gasoline Savings: $0.21-$0.71/gallon

  • Avoid Driving in Rush Hour
OK. Rush hour is really the slow hour. It's when you want to rush but other cars are in the way. This stop and go driving wastes gas. When you're stopped you're getting zero miles to the gallon.

So, if you can, drive earlier or later than everybody else and have a more pleasant drive and save gas at the same time.

  • Drive Less
Combine errands and cut down on single errand runs. Intelligently plan your trips to accomplish as much as possible. If you can stay home and get what you want tomorrow along with something else, do so. You'll save gas when you don't drive your car.

  • Remove Excess Weight
Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2%. The reduction is based on the percentage of extra weight relative to the vehicle's weight and affects smaller vehicles more than larger ones.

Save money on gas by reducing weight.

    Fuel Economy Benefit: 1-2%/100 lbs
    Equivalent Gasoline Savings: $0.03-$0.06/gallon

  • Avoid Excessive Idling
Idling gets 0 miles per gallon. Cars with larger engines typically waste more gas at idle than do cars with smaller engines.

  • Use Cruise Control
Using cruise control on the highway helps you maintain a constant speed and, in most cases, will save money on gas.

  • Check Your Tire Pressure
Properly inflated tires provide better mileage. If your tires are low in pressure they make your engine work harder to move your car and you'll waste gas. Over-inflated and under-inflated tires also cause excessive wear on your tires that reduces their lifespan.

Save money on gas every time you use your credit card to purchase gas.

At around $3 a gallon, you know you want to save money on gas. How about saving at least 10¢ per gallon?
